Prevent Type 2 Diabetes by Losing Weight


Studies show  that type 2 diabetes can be prevented by losing weight before the onset of condition. According to the studies, people with pre-diabetes, who lose roughly 10 percent of their body weight within six months of diagnosis, dramatically lower their risk of developing type 2 diabetes over the next three years. 

Short-term Behaviour Change may Effect Long term Health and Prevent Diabetes


Much of the benefits of losing that weight is noticed in those first six months when people are adjusting to a new way of eating and excercising.

Substantial weight loss  in the short-term clearly should go a long way towards preventing diabetes. 

Preventing pre-diabetes from becoming full-blown diabetes is critical. Uncontrolled diabetes marked by excess sugar in the blood can lead to eye, kidney and nerve damage as well as cardiovascular disease.  

The research is published online in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
