Our popular hot beverage coffee is now under study for its powerful health benefits against liver cirrhosis and several other health problems. It is a major source of dietary antioxidants and is packed with many other such healthy nutrients.
Research shows that it can substantially decrease the risk of developing type2 diabetes and liver cirrhosis.. During the studies, an inverse association between coffee and cirrhosis has been observed.
Liver cirrhosis is a major health problem among the global population and the number of people caught by it are growing severely.
After an analysis of different studies conducted to find out the link between coffee consumption and the reduced risk of liver cirrhosis, it is found that the risk of cirrhosis continued to decline as the number of cups consumed rises. This leads the researchers to to conclude that coffee consumption may reduce the risk of liver cirrhosis.
“This could be an important finding for patients at risk of cirrhosis to help to improve their health outcomes," said Oliver Kennedy in a press release. He says "However, we now need robust clinical trials to investigate the wider benefits and harms of coffee so that doctors can make specific recommendations to patients."
Sixteen studies were included, involving 3034 coffee consumers and 132076 people who do not consume coffee. The pooled results of the meta-analysis indicated that coffee consumers were less likely to develop cirrhosis compared with those who do not consume coffee.
